FILE YOUR STATE TAXES (Integrated with IRS Direct File)

For the first time in US history, and as a limited pilot for the 2024 tax season, the IRS is now launching Direct File, a mobile-first revolutionary system that empowers taxpayers to file their federal tax returns directly with the IRS online for free, thereby enhancing taxpayer choice and democratizing access to the tax system and maximizing the possibility for refund. However, the success of Direct File hinged on providing an equally effortless and seamless method for taxpayers to file their state tax returns.

Serving as the Design Lead for the state filing experience, and working alongside engineering, product, program, content translators, research, and client success teams at Code for America, we collaborated with the states of New York and Arizona to develop an accessible state filing solution called FileYourStateTaxes, tailored specifically to the Direct File user base.
